About Cambridge Lower Secondary
Abundant Life Christian Academy will offer the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum in Math, English, and Global Perspectives classes in grades 6-8. Through these rigorous classes, students will be prepared with the opportunity to excel beyond the standard middle school expectations and for the increased demands of advanced programs in high school and beyond.
Also known as Cambridge Lower Secondary, the Cambridge Program offers a flexible curriculum with integrated assessment. Designed for students ages 11-14, Cambridge Lower Secondary develops learners' skills and understanding. Cambridge Lower Secondary provides excellent preparation for rigorous coursework at the high school level. Students who participate in Cambridge Lower Secondary will develop the skills necessary for success in Cambridge AICE, International Baccalaureate (IB), Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses.
Who may apply?
Students who are identified as gifted or who have high standardized test scores and grade point averages are invited to apply for the program. Cambridge Secondary is a significant commitment for families considering entering the program at the middle school level. Students who begin in the year in Cambridge may not switch out to other classes during the course of the year. However, students may choose not to continue with the program the following school year. Students may apply in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (if they qualify). The program involves high expectations of behavior and achievement, along with a hefty workload.
Cambridge Secondary is designed to provide an education for academically advanced or gifted students, with a curriculum that is constructed to meet the needs of the most advanced learner and an emphasis on creativity, innovation, and scholarly discourse. Throughout the Cambridge Secondary experience, students develop the skills and content knowledge necessary to meet the high demands of advanced coursework and ultimately transition successfully to the high school setting. Students in our Cambridge program develop the skills necessary for success in Cambridge AICE, International Baccalaureate (IB), Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses., and also participate in Project Lead the Way’s STEM program.
